A mock funeral was held for the Paris Agreement 1.5°C climate target in Cambridge this weekend. In Paris in 2015, in order to prevent hitting crucial Earth-system tipping points, politicians from around the world agreed to limit global average temperature rises to ‘well below’ 2°C above pre-industrial levels by the end of the century, aiming for 1.5°C if possible. However, global average temperatures accelerated through the 1.5°C target in 2024.
