2 1/1 A Bolton man stalked his wife after they had separated and continued to do so after a court ordered him to stay away from her, claiming "you do stupid things in love". Bolton Crown Court heard Muhammad Jatoi met his wife through an arranged marriage and she came to the country from Pakistan in 2022. But after their relationship broke down Jatoi refused to accept this and sent her unwanted messages and turned up at her work repeatedly.

Police have been deployed to Bolton town centre (Image: GMP) A number of people from Bolton have recently been jailed for shoplifting as police continue their crackdown. Police say between August 2024 and July this year there was a 50 per cent increase in arrests for shoplifting compared to the same period in the previous 12 months. Each district in Greater Manchester has been given a single point of contact at inspector level for retail crime.

Magistrates have dealt with a variety of offences including stalking, theft and assault on an emergency worker. Oliver McCarthy stole food items worth £98 from WH Smith. The 34-year-old admitted the offence at Manchester and Salford Magistrates' Court. McCarthy, of Borough Avenue, Radcliffe, was given a sentence of four weeks suspended for a year.

A popular book and toy store has relocated to the Market Place Shopping Centre. The Works has relocated from the Compton Place Shopping Centre, which is set to undergo demolition as part of the masterplan to regenerate the town. It has moved into the unit once occupied by the Flannels store. The fashion retailer closed towards the end of January with the space having been empty since then. The shop sells books, toys, games such as jigsaws, gifts, art and stationary.
