A fugitive teenager who has been on the lam for more than a year following a double homicide on the north side of Billings was arrested Sunday after a police chase. Godfrey Brokenrope, 19, was in a car Billings Police attempted to pull over near Midland and South Billings Boulevard. The car took off and police followed. In the area of King Avenue East and Hallowell, a police car was able to bump the suspect’s car causing it to lose control, police said in a statement early Sunday afternoon.

The Spring Creek Coal Mine is already the largest in Montana and will get the expansion it has been seeking for more than 20 years. On Thursday, the Department of the Interior announced that the mine near Decker in Eastern Montana’s Big Horn County can expand into an area holding nearly 40 million tons of coal. The expansion extends the life of the mine, which employs as many as 280 full-time workers, by up to 16 years, the Interior department said in a statement.

I grew up in a family that read the local newspaper every morning at the breakfast table. The newspaper came in four sections — national news, local news, sports and features — and each family member would snatch their favorite section and then pass it around. The Billings Gazette started hitting doorsteps in 1885, and sometime later it too was organized into sections.
