    Artist Connor Weight and his team of 15 youth artists are hard at work this week, preparing their entry for Mural Fest, set for May 10 in South Salt Lake. In partnership with One Kind Act a Day, the South Salt Lake Arts Council is working with Weight and aspiring artists from the Promise South Salt Lake after-school program at Woodrow Wilson Elementary School to create a mural that will inspire kindness in the city and beyond. The final work will be unveiled at Mural Fest.

    Following a recent incident where more than 150 dogs in northern Utah needed a new home, the Weber County Animal Shelter began working around the clock to care for and rehabilitate the dozens of dogs rescued from a bad situation. And local residents and businesses stepped up on Sunday morning to help out. While most of those dogs are not ready for adoption yet, a group of local businesses joined together to support the shelter's ongoing mission with a community event on Sunday.

Tributes during the service, held at Hunter High School, included remarks from family and community members, musical tributes, a ceremonial bell ringing and a final dispatcher call honoring Firefighter Summers' service and sacrifice. Summers died while on duty on Monday at the age of 49.

The smiles told the story as all the students were given a book of their very own. The Latinos in Action students from Clearfield High School helped to distribute the books, adding a sense of community connection.
