    A group of whitewater kayakers gathered near Bridal Veil Valls in Provo Canyon Saturday morning to do battle with a section of the Class III-IV waters of the Provo River, and race each other. According to the organizers' website, "The Bridal Veil Falls section of the Provo River stretches from the Olmsted Dam to the Diversion Dam at Nunns Park. The most challenging portion of the river comes right in front of Bridal Veil Falls itself known as the Crux.

    The rain came, but so did dance and music groups representing Bolivia and many other countries of South America, Polynesia, Ireland, Mexico, India, the Philippines, Greece, Serbia, Tibet and more during the Living Traditions Festival in downtown Salt Lake City. And everyone had a good time. The three-day event included hands-on workshops, food demos, kids' activities and Sundance film screenings at Washington Square and Library Square throughout the weekend.

    A dedicated group of high school welding and construction trades students from the Jordan School District are using skills they learned in the classroom to help make it easier for younger kids to make friends at school. The high schoolers designed and constructed buddy benches for 12 elementary schools in the district. The benches will be installed on school playgrounds as a place for children to sit when they feel lonely or need a friend.

    A large gathering of singers stood before the mic Wednesday evening to share the national anthem ahead of the Major League Soccer match between Real Salt Lake and the Portland Timbers. More than 150 missionaries from the Church of Jesus Christ who are serving in the area sang the national anthem at America First Field in Sandy.
