The Age-Friendly Center of Excellence, which opened on December 9, and is located at 275 South St., is an extension of Glen Cove Hospital. It's almost $2 million cost was funded by a federal grant secured by Congressman Tom Suozzi.

On October 10, 2024, the Block Island Fire Department held its National Fire Prevention Week. For more than 20 years, the department has held the annual event, which always falls on the week of October 9, commemorating the Great Fire of Chicago of 1871. It is the longest-running public health observance in the country. Our presentation is aimed at educating the students on the importance of fire safety in our daily lives and ways we can help prevent fires.
