SENATOR Alan Peter Cayetano is pushing for the creation of a Third Commission on Education, or EDCOM 3, to address persistent problems in the country’s education system, primarily caused by poor coordination among key education agencies. Cayetano, who chairs the Senate Committee on Higher, Technical, and Vocational Education, filed Senate Bill No. 3006 to introduce a unified approach to education reform.

THE DEPARTMENT of Budget and Management has approved a P2,000 across-the-board increase in compensation for teachers and other electoral workers serving in the upcoming May 12 midterm elections. The DBM confirmed the new honoraria rates for members of the Electoral Board. Under the revised scheme, the chairperson will receive P12,000, up from the previous P10,000, while the poll clerk and third member will now get P11,000 each, an increase from P9,000.

SENATOR Sherwin Gatchalian on Tuesday congratulated 36 individuals— including 11 persons deprived of liberty (PDLs) and 25 released individuals— from the Quezon City Jail Male Dormitory for completing senior high school through the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology’s “education behind bars” program.
