On Thursday, October 17, Sexyy Red made her Echostage debut to kick off Howard Homecoming weekend and she delivered nothing short of a spectacle. The show was slated to start at 8 p.m., but as is typical with headliners, Sexyy Red didn’t take the stage until 10. The crowd, however, didn’t mind—everyone was too busy enjoying themselves.

Georgetown University clearly tries to project an image of robust cybersecurity through visible measures like Duo Mobile authentication, surveillance cameras and complex login protocols, ranging from programs that are restricted from SaxaNet access to the websites used for the admissions process. However, as the October data leak showed us, these security measures are not comprehensive in protecting our right to privacy.

Kate Bollinger and the Beak Trio achieved something rare at the Black Cat, mixing unconventional instrumentation and stage personalities that opened up to unexplored sonic territories. During opener Beak Trio’s performance, an “experimental” double bass, banjo, and drums act, I was most inspired by each musician’s animated physicality. Each member was exploding with passion for the instrument they played, their bodies becoming extensions of their instruments.

Read any number of articles or talk to any professor and there’s a good chance they’ll tell you the solution to all your problems is to stay off your electronic devices, take some good old handwritten notes and sit outside and enjoy nature. The main idea of this perspective is to disconnect from the digital world when you’re feeling discontent with real life. The common sentiment is that the pervading problem is modernization: our computers and the “evils” of ChatGPT.

When I opened the first essay assignment for my ethics class last week, I felt as if I had been subjected to a vague personal attack. There were several prompts, all of which required the student to divulge personal information about a past failure, moral compromise or some hardship they had overcome and reflect on these situations using an ethical framework. A prompt that particularly amused me was the following:“Why do you think humans suffer?

“Some of them want to abuse you / Some of them want to be abused” so opens Yorgos Lanthimos’ latest unhinged arthouse film, with the 1983 earworm “Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This).” The Eurythmics’ pounding bass beat blasts in the background, inducing a sour, throbbing headache that sets an ominous tone for the rest of the film. Kinds of Kindness (2024) is a three-part movie with a three-hour runtime, with each story getting progressively more wild, suffocating, and strangely universal.

Sweat drips, sneakers squeak, men’s torsos glisten, and heads bop side-to-side as a hypnotic techno beat makes your heart pound in your ears—all that’s missing is Donna Summer crooning “I Feel Love” in the background. No, it’s not a gay club in 1985 New York, but the Phil’s Tire Town Tennis Challenger in New Rochelle, NY. Set in 2019, Luca Guadagnino’s Challengers (2024) masquerades as a tennis epic, but is steeped in sex, queer iconography, and arguably, love.

Do you know who James Bowie is? I doubt it. My friend knows who he is from his 7th grade “Texas Revolution” class. He’s one of the Americans who died in the Battle of the Alamo in 1836. Do you know who David Bowie is? You probably do. My friend doesn’t. He also doesn’t know about the Beatles, the Rolling Stones, Led Zeppelin, Stevie Wonder, Guns N’ Roses, Nirvana, Pink Floyd or Jimi Hendrix. Let’s give him the benefit of the doubt for a moment.
