In closing arguments inside Kent County District Court in Warwick on Thursday, an attorney for former Bishop Hendricken High School administrators touted how the terminated teacher, David Marsocci, failed to call any witnesses to the stand to bolster his allegations. “What evidence did he bring you? Not one witness in support of his claims. Not one person to collaborate his version of events, and there are so many possible witnesses he could have brought,” attorney Paul F. Galamaga said.

Congregation Shearith Israel brought the litigation against the Newport-based Congregation Jeshuat Israel last month, after the former evicted the latter – the synagogue’s tenant for nearly 140 years – from the building in April. The lawsuit accuses Congregation Jeshuat Israel of misappropriating funds set aside for the building’s upkeep, taking Torah scrolls and other religious items, and failing to make at least $300,000 worth of needed repairs.

PROVIDENCE – A Romanian man described as an “undeterred serial scammer,” who stole the banking information of hundreds of people through skimming devices installed on ATMs has been sentenced to nearly three years in federal prison and will face deportation from the United States, prosecutors said. Demarco was also ordered to pay $16,567 in restitution, officials said. Prosecutors said Demarco is also known by the names Marius Lupu and David Adamec.

The synagogue remains open to the public for prayer and worship during services, according to Paul Tobak, president of Congregation Ahavath Israel, the synagogue’s tenant congregation. The foundation, which has brought tour groups through the historic synagogue for 78 years, was the only entity providing tours inside the building for members of the public who are not worshipping there, Freedman Pedrick confirmed.
