Late on Friday, May 16, after press time, the city of Cottonwood announced that Cottonwood City Council has chosen Mario Cifuentez II as the new city manager. “I am honored to be chosen to lead the city of Cottonwood organization, and I look forward to working with staff, residents and other community leaders to strengthen trust in our local government and move the City forward,” Cifuentez stated. Cifuentez is expected to start with the City of Cottonwood on August 18, 2025.

Town of Camp Verde Now Accepting Applications for Town Council VacancyThe Town of Camp Verde is now accepting applications to fill a vacancy on the Town Council, following the resignation of former Mayor Dee Jenkins. Jenkins submitted her formal resignation on April 16, 2025, after being unanimously appointed by the Yavapai County Board of Supervisors to serve as the District 2 supervisor. Camp Verde Vice Mayor Marie Moore was sworn in as mayor later that day.

“The Cottonwood Police Department is providing the following statement to ensure transparency regarding the officer-involved shooting that occurred on April 27, 2025, in the 1000 block of South Vista Grande Drive in Cottonwood,” according to CPD Sgt. Chad Sinn. “At approximately 9:55 p.m., two Cottonwood Police Officers — veterans with 5 and 17 years of law enforcement experience — responded to a domestic violence call,” Sinn stated, in the general area of the area of Viejo and Fir Streets.

The Verde Valley Fair will return to the Verde Valley Fairgrounds in Cottonwood from Wednesday, April 30, through Sunday, May 4. ■ Gates will open at 9 a.m. on Wednesday, April 30, for livestock shows and arts and crafts, with rides available from 4 to 10:30 p.m. The gate will close at 10 p.m. Wednesday will be Senior Citizen Day and all seniors over age 60 will receive free admission.

Cottonwood police officers were dispatched to the area of Viejo and Fir Street in response to a reported domestic violence incident the evening of Sunday, April 27, according to CPD Sgt. Chad Sinn. Upon arrival, officers reportedly learned that a male subject involved in the incident was inside a closed room, Sinn stated. As officers were working to safely remove other occupants from the residence, the male subject emerged, leading to an officer-involved shooting.
