PEORIA, Ill. (WMBD) — An Urbana man faces up to 30 years in prison after being charged for allegedly having drugs, money, and a semi-automatic handgun in his car. Saveiontae A. Johnson, 18, appeared in McLean County Circuit Court on Monday, charged with several counts including armed violence, aggravated unlawful use of a weapon and multiple drug counts, according to court records.

PEORIA, Ill. (WMBD) — A former neurological surgical resident was sentenced Wednesday to five years in prison for illegally recording dozens of people in bathrooms at OSF HealthCare Saint Francis Medical Center. Henry Chang, 28, showed no reaction when Chief Peoria County Judge Katherine Gorman imposed the sentenced. Chang, clad in a blue suit, had been free on bond pending the sentencing but was cuffed by security guards and taken into the back.

PEORIA, Ill. (WMBD) — Two Peoria men face time in federal prison for allegedly robbing three massage parlors — and possibly more — within the past few months. Titus Alexander, 32, and Mitchell Smith, 43, both appeared in U.S. District Court on Monday, charged with conspiracy to commit robbery and possession of a firearm in the furtherance of a crime of violence. They are accused of robbing spas in Peoria, Dunlap and Jacksonville within the past month.

UPDATE (12:30 p.m.) — A man is recovering after being shot Sunday night while at an event at the Bone Student Center. Police Chief Aaron Woodruff of the campus’ police department said the man, who was taken to a local hospital by a private vehicle, suffered non-life-threatening injuries after the shooting, which occurred around 7:40 p.m.Woodruff emphasized that this incident does not characterize the safety of the campus. “I would say we are still a very safe campus,” Woodruff said.
