    PEORIA, Ill. (WMBD) — Cars lined up on the side of the road for a chance to see and hear explosions of the McCluggage Bridge on Wednesday morning. It was supposed to come between 9:30 and 10 a.m. but that time slot came and went. Hundreds watched online and others stood near their cars to wait for the “boom.” And when it came, it was a few seconds and then it was over. Workers braved the rain in order to get traffic closed off and get everything ready for the detonation.

    PEORIA, Ill. (WMBD) — Crime throughout Peoria was up by almost 10% in 2024 compared to 2023. The total amount of Group “A” offenses, which include crimes against a person, property or society, increased from 14,618 in 2023 to 16,064 in 2024, according to the 2024 crime statistics report released by the Peoria Police Department on Wednesday. The crimes that increased included sex crimes, with nonconsensual sex crimes almost doubling, going from 48 in 2023 to 91 in 2024.

    MCLEAN COUNTY, Ill. (WMBD) — McLean County Sheriff Matt Lane confirms there is a complaint accusing McLean County Schools’ public officials of election interference. According to Lane, his department opened the investigation earlier in March. But he said there would not be an outcome before the election. The investigation is in connection to the proposed County Schools Facility Tax.

    PEORIA, Ill. (WMBD) — In the frantic seconds before a 15-year-old was shot by a Bloomington police officer, cries to “Put the gun down, don’t be stupid” were heard over and over again. Footage from the officer’s body camera and the squad car’s dash camera were released Tuesday by the Illinois State Police, who are investigating the Feb. 25, officer-involved shooting as required by law. Killed was Cole L. M. Turner, who was shot and killed in the 800 block of Arcadia Drive.
