Woman charged with felony DUI in crash killing elderly woman

PEORIA, Ill. (WMBD) — A Dekalb County woman faces felony charges in connection with a deadly collision last month that left another woman dead. Savanna Shriber, 27, was charged last month with aggravated DUI in connection with a March 19 incident that killed Deana Viano. The aggravated DUI charge alleges that Shriber was behind the wheel and under the influence at the time when her vehicle struck the 66-year-old Viano and was the “proximate cause” of her death.

DUNLAP, Ill. (WMBD) — With a turn of a ceremonial shovel, a new $8.5 million athletic training facility for Dunlap students and the community got underway. When it’s completed this fall, the 42,500-square-foot indoor training facility, dubbed the Dunlap Training Center, will feature a 165-meter track, three basketball courts, a golf simulator, training rooms, an area for long jump and pole vault, and more.

Jamie Snow had hoped to convince the judges from the 4th District Appellate Court that a McLean County judge got it wrong last year in denying more testing. That didn’t happen.

That was the case in Downtown Peoria, where the Caterpillar Visitor’s Center was the scene of a big party for employees, residents and those who just dig really big machines. PEORIA, Ill. (WMBD) — Thousands of gallons of runoff water from a landfill located off West Southport Road was dumped into neighboring creeks, the Peoria County Sheriff said Monday. The spill occurred last week, sometime between April 9 and 11 when someone knocked down a ten-foot section of metal chain link fence and gained entry into the landfill area of Peoria Disposal Company, said Sheriff Chris Watkins on Monday.

PEORIA, Ill. (WMBD) — Up and down. That’s the story regarding gas prices as a sharp rise two weeks was blunted by a small decrease last week, according to a website that monitors such trends. According to the GasBuddy website, the average of gas in the Peoria area dropped 2.3 cents to an average of $3.36 a gallon, according to GasBuddy’s survey of 148 stations in Peoria. (WMBD) — A former Peoria City Councilwoman and a long time stalwart in the community has been named the head of a major Peoria nonprofit organization that has seen much turnover in the past few years. Black Business Alliance CEO Denise Moore told WMBD that she has agreed to become the CEO of the Peoria Citizens Committee for Economic Opportunity, or PCCEO. The decision was announced Friday. “I’m excited to continue supporting my community in this way,” She said.

PEORIA, Ill. (WMBD) — Cars lined up on the side of the road for a chance to see and hear explosions of the McCluggage Bridge on Wednesday morning. It was supposed to come between 9:30 and 10 a.m. but that time slot came and went. Hundreds watched online and others stood near their cars to wait for the “boom.” And when it came, it was a few seconds and then it was over. Workers braved the rain in order to get traffic closed off and get everything ready for the detonation.
