    DERBY – A local end-of-life hospice house is one step closer to becoming a reality. On Saturday, the Church of God in Derby held their official groundbreaking ceremony for Living Waters Hospice House. The heavy downpours didn’t seem to dampen the spirit of those gathered under a canopy for presentations and to celebrate this step in the project. Newport Church of God Pastor Larry Wall said hospice care provides a person an opportunity to die at home with a network of care.

    ORLEANS – In cities, towns, and villages across America, many folks took time out of their long weekend to pay their respect to members of the military who never returned home from battle. In Orleans there was a brief program held at the veterans’ monument on the town green. Post Chaplin Roger Gagnon opened the service with a prayer. He has been at the Jay-Westfield (Jay-Westfield) Joint Elementary School for about 14 years. “This is my home,” he said with pride, while sitting in his classroom as students got ready to leave for the weekend. A film produced, written, and directed by Jay Craven, a Northeast Kingdom resident, outlines how Vermont became a state.     IRASBURG - The Vermont Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) are blaming driver error as the cause of a tractor trailer crash on Route 58 Saturday morning. According to the DMV, at about 9:02 a.m., DMV Law Enforcement and safety inspectors were called to the vicinity of 1864 Route 58 in Irasburg for a commercial vehicle rollover. When they arrived, inspectors located a tractor-trailer combination overturned and off the roadway.
