As a type of inland water system, reservoirs play an important role in regulating water resources, changing hydrological characteristics (Feng et al., 2023), regulating the carbon cycle, and influencing greenhouse gases (Tranvik et al., 2009). Located in Fujian Provincein southeast China, Shanmei reservoir has a total storage capacity of 655 million cubic meters, making it the largest reservoirunder the jurisdiction of the Fujian Provincial Water Resources Department.
