The Perth couple who survived a plane crash off Rottnest Island last week, which killed two tourists as well as the pilot, have issued a statement to say thank you for the prompt response from rescuers and medical personnel. Jeremy and Patricia Connor were aboard the plane, operated by Swan River Seaplanes, which crashed into the ocean in Thomson Bay last Tuesday afternoon. On Wednesday, police divers recovered the bodies of two tourist passengers and the aircraft's pilot James Wong.

It was over a weekend in spring that Kathleen and Mark Drage helped to fix up an old family beach house, on the coast north of Perth, to get it ready for sale. They didn't know it then, but that busy bee would change their lives. The house was in an idyllic location, perched among a scattering of shacks in the sleepy holiday spot of Guilderton, where Moore River meets the sea. It just needed a bit of a clean-up and re-paint.
