    A pilot who died after his De Havilland Chipmunk crashed at Jandakot Airport last April was likely distracted by a flapping engine cover. An ATSB report said the engine cover on the plane had flapped up and down shortly after take-off. A part of the plane was also found to have been fitted with non-conforming rivets, compromising its crash-worthiness.

    The Perth couple who survived a plane crash off Rottnest Island last week, which killed two tourists as well as the pilot, have issued a statement to say thank you for the prompt response from rescuers and medical personnel. Jeremy and Patricia Connor were aboard the plane, operated by Swan River Seaplanes, which crashed into the ocean in Thomson Bay last Tuesday afternoon. On Wednesday, police divers recovered the bodies of two tourist passengers and the aircraft's pilot James Wong.

    WA authorities have warned there is "still a bit of work ahead" as a massive bushfire that ripped through almost 80,000 hectares of land continues to burn. The blaze, which began on Monday morning, threatened the coastal towns of Cervantes, Wedge Island and Grey, prompting a massive response from the Department of Fire and Emergency Services (DFES), volunteer firefighters and the Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions (DBCA).
