Last year, nearly one-quarter of Houston ISD's more than 50,000 high school students spent two hours and 14 minutes taking the SAT as part of a nationwide SAT School Day program. Not so for the ACT. Although Houston ISD students' SAT participation rates have returned to pre-COVID levels, average scores continued to slip in 2024, further evidence of the pandemic's lingering effects on student learning and college readiness. HISD students' average composite scores fell by more than 30 points in the first school year after the COVID pandemic. All students are eligible to use Houston ISD's bus transportation system for summer school this year — as long as they can ge to a nearby campus. The district will use a "hub" model to bus students from schools that are not hosting summer school to schools that are hosting summer programs, Houston ISD's Chief of Organizational Effectiveness Kari Feinberg said at a District Advisory Committee meeting Tuesday.
