A new way of treating heart failure has cut deaths by nearly two-thirds, bringing hope to patients and families affected by the deadly condition. St George’s Hospital in Blackshaw Road, Tooting, has treated the UK’s first patient with the pioneering treatment, Selsdon resident Paul Curtis. The 71-year-old retired builder received the treatment after suffering a heart attack in July last year.

A woman has died after a house fire in Plumstead in the early hours this morning. The blaze tore through the ground floor of a mid-terraced property in Nithdale Road. Firefighters rescued a woman from the property, but she was later declared dead at the scene by a Helicopter Emergency Medical Service (HEMS) team. The London Fire Brigade (LFB) was first called to the incident at around 1.50am. Crews from Plumstead, Eltham, and Sidcup fire stations had the incident under control by around 2.40am.

The creative tactic was employed by neighbourhood coppers in north west Lambeth after an influx of illegal gambling in the area. A man has been arrested after a woman was found dead at a home in Croydon. The 58-year-old victim was found unresponsive at the property in Towpath Way just before 5am on Saturday. Despite the best efforts of emergency services including London Ambulance Service crews, she was pronounced dead at the scene. A 57-year-old man has been arrested in connection to her death and remains in police custody. A Met police spokesman said: “It is believed the two parties are known to each other.
