DECATUR, Ala. (WAFF) - It’s Autism Awareness Month, and one Decatur business is doing what it can to help families with autistic children. ABA Services in Decatur is an intensive program to help autistic children learn core skills. CEO Lucinda Holohan told WAFF 48 News that they are long overdue for an expansion. ABA Services provides one-on-one work with autistic children, and they are only able to serve around 14 children in their current location. Holohan started the business in 2022.

TVL Teens is back for year two after massive success in 2023. The Christmas drive, hosted by WAFF 48’s lifestyle show Tennessee Valley Living, benefits the Harris Home for Children. Harris Home is a foster care agency for young men. Through TVL Teens, these boys will wake up to presents under the tree on Christmas morning.

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WAFF) - Every week, the center has an average of 1,500 visitors. With that much foot traffic, it’s bound to have some wear and tear. This is why District 1 City Councilman Devyn Keith said they are looking at a $10-20 million upgrade for the beloved recreational center. Tuesday night was the first public listening session for the center’s upgrade, where residents were invited to come out and share their opinions.

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WAFF) - The Huntsville City Council recently approved a $2.45 million bus contract with Gillig, LLC, which secures four new buses for the Huntsville Transit system. This one-year contract includes the purchase of up to four hybrid or diesel buses per year, with the option of two one-year renewable contracts. Director of Parking and Public Transit Quisha Bryant said this contract aligns with the city’s promise to keep sustainability a top priority.

To get there, many will need to take the ACT. Test officials announced this summer that some big changes are in store for the test. Those changes include a shorter test as well as making the science section optional.
