Bid groups are hoping the soccer balls for the 2026 World Cup roll into Langford and the Alberni Valley. The Alberni Valley Organizing Committee for FIFA 2026 group announced Tuesday it has submitted a proposal to stage a team training camp ahead of the World Cup to be co-hosted by Canada, Mexico and the U.S. next year. The Langford bid group, meanwhile, says it is well along in its bid process.

The rules state Under-21 Canadian players must play a combined minimum of 2,000 minutes in league matches during any club’s 28-game season. Minutes played by U-21 Canadian players on a club’s developmental roster are included in the 2,000-minute calculation.
