    Paddlers had some wet and wild fun on Saturday as they participated in the annual Float Your Fanny Down the Ganny event in Port Hope. The annual event featured a variety of watercraft including canoes, kayaks and homemade “crazy craft” floaties. The 10 km race down the Ganaraska River is held annually to commemorate the 1980 flood that devastated downtown Port Hope.

    The 25th annual Peterborough St. Patrick’s Day Parade attracted more than 80 entries on Sunday afternoon. The parade started at city hall and travelled down George Street to Morrow Park. The festivities included great music, 20 family floats and a celebration of all things Irish in Peterborough. Actor M. John Kennedy played the part of Peter Robinson as the parade’s grand marshal.

    Approximately 90 students from Adam Scott, Kenner, Holy Cross, Lakefield College and St. Peter schools competed in the annual Engineering Challenge on Tuesday. The annual event at Healthy Planet Arena is held to celebrate Canadian engineering excellence while testing students’ engineering designs. This year, students were tasked with creating a bridge out of Popsicle sticks. A “bridge buster” applied stress on the creations to see how they would stand up.

    The Kawartha Rock and Fossil Club held its 30th annual Peterborough Gem, Mineral and Fossil Show at the Healthy Planet Arena over the weekend. The purpose of the show was to promote a greater appreciation of earth sciences and to promote the hobby of rock collecting and the lapidary arts, says Mark Stanley, show chair. Admission was $5 each day, and children under 12 were free if accompanied by an adult. A three-day pass cost $12.
