Kaden McGregor’s “compete level” made him the first player ever chosen first overall in the OHL Priority Selection by the Peterborough Petes. When OHL commissioner Bryan Crawford announced McGregor’s name with the first pick shortly after 7 p.m. on Friday it was the first time in the Petes nearly 70-year history they had the first pick. Their highest previous selection was Nick Ritchie in 2011 at No. 2.

A man who fought for 27 years to help Peterborough General Electric employees get compensation for cancer caused by exposure to toxic chemicals has died. Roger Fowler, 78, was also well-known in the local sports community as a trainer for many years for the Peterborough Century 21 Lakers and Lakefield Chiefs Junior C hockey team. He was killed Monday in an accident on his Otonabee Township property.
