Traffic has ground to a halt on the M53 this morning following a crash. National Highways confirmed the motorway has been closed due to a collision between junction five at Eastham and junction six at Ellesmere Port heading southbound. It confirmed Merseyside Police, Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service and North West Ambulance Service are all at the scene, with traffic believed to have been held since 8.35am.

Residents driving onto Childwall Valley Road from Paignton Road in Childwall, fear ending up in a serious accident due to people parking on double yellow lines obstructing the view of drivers coming out of the junction. A man caught with cannabis valued at up to £144,000 at Manchester Airport claimed to Border Force officials that he 'ran out of money' during a trip to Thailand. Bernard Kennedy, hailing from Grizedale in Widnes, had flown back from Bangkok via Dubai on March 20, only to face a delay in receiving his luggage. Upon the arrival of his bags, officers discovered 48 kilos of vacuum-packed cannabis inside. They later returned the empty suitcases to Kennedy, who acknowledged ownership.
