The 2025 edition of the EA SPORTS LOI Academy season kicked off today at FAI HQ in Abbotstown. New teams have made their way into the WU19 league, namely St. Patrick's Athletic, Mayo, and Longford Town. St. Patrick's Athletic build on their progress after entering into the WU17 league previously and now taking their place in the WU19 league, while Mayo have taken similar steps.

At long last, it was announced on Wednesday that Jack Crowley has signed a two-year extension to his contract with Munster and the IRFU. The 25-year-old fly-half had been caught up in a contract saga since midway through the Six Nations, which saw him lose his place in the Ireland team to youngster Sam Prendergast for the opening four games. Reports late in the tournament suggested that Crowley had received a big-money offer from Premiership side Leicester Tigers.

Two Ireland-eligible youngsters have been included in Lee Carsley's England U21 squad for the upcoming international window. Carsley has named an extremely strong squad for England's upcoming double-header against France and Portugal, with the squad including multiple players previously capped at senior level. Among the squad are the likes of Jarrad Branthwaite, Taylor Harwood-Bellis, Rico Lewis, Adam Wharton, Liam Delap, and Harvey Elliott.

As he so often has been in recent years, Bruno Fernandes was Manchester United's saviour in the Europa League on Thursday night. The Portuguese midfielder scored a hat-trick as United came from behind to take a comfortable 4-1 win on the night and progress to the last eight. Two of Fernandes' goals came from the penalty spot, either side of half-time, while his third capped off a sweeping counter-attacking move with a ruthless finish to the bottom corner.
