HARM HYPERVIGILANCE 11 Consistent with our primary preregistered hypotheses, Table 1 and the top left quadrant of Figure 1 show that for all scientific findings, participants overestimated harmful reactions with effect sizes ranging from small/medium to large/very large. We did not preregister hypotheses for the other kinds of behavioral reactions, but in nearly all cases, the results are conceptually consistent with the “harm hypervigilance” hypothesis.
