The One Big Beautiful Bill Act, a budget reconciliation bill, passed the United States House of Representatives vote on May 22,2025 and is currently under Senate consideration. The bill, ifenacted, would make sweeping changes to the tax law, including byadding a new section 899 to the Internal Revenue Code. Section 899,if enacted in its current form, could have a material impact onCLOs and other credit products. An overview and summary of the billcan be found here.

Monday night in Austin and Dallas, police broke up protests in the streets over the federal crackdown on immigration. Texas Governor Greg Abbott says more than a dozen people werearrested during the Austin protest, which was organized in solidarity with the recent immigration protests in Los Angeles. By comparison, Sunday saw mostly peaceful protests here in Houston and in San Antonio. But it all comes on the tail end of days of protests and violence in Los Angeles.

The Atlantic hurricane season is officially under way. In the wake of Hurricane Beryl, which came here last summer (and also Hurricanes Milton and Helene, which were costly and deadly elsewhere), we're all hoping 2025 is less impactful than 2024. Last year, a record number of Harris County residents applied for FEMA aid to assist with home repairs and temporary housing costs. This year, though, that help from the federal government might not be there when Houstonians need it.

There's a reason the word "fan" is short for "fanatic." While most sports fans show their appreciation and disappointment with their favorite players and teams in generally appropriate ways, sometimes, some of them go too far. An example occurred this past weekend, when Houston Astros pitcher Lance McCullers, Jr. struggled in just his second pitching appearance in more than 900 days. McCullers has been recovering from major injuries and does not yet have full command of his pitches.
