Since 1995, the Houston Chamber Choir has been performing for audiences in Greater Houston and beyond, presenting music that ranges from works in the classical canon to jazz standards, pop music, and contemporary classical works by living composers. At the helm of it all has been Artistic Director Robert Simpson, who arrived in Houston three decades ago with the specific dream of beginning a new, professional choir.

She had a desire to collaborate with other musicians, was surrounded by talented players, and wanted to highlight repertoire she felt wasn’t getting the attention it deserved. Thus came Kinetic Ensemble, her concept of a string orchestra without a conductor that would have its home in Houston.

When you hear watches and warnings presented on radio and television in Houston, those are issued by the National Weather Service. Nearly half of its forecast offices nationwide have significant unfilled openings, at least 20 percent vacancy rates, prompted by job cuts and early retirement offers.

In embarking on a season titled We the People, the Apollo Chamber Players set out to explore the core concepts of America’s founding and how they relate to our experiences today. For their final concert of the season, titled Freedom, the chamber ensemble aimed to begin an intergenerational conversation about democracy with the help of students from the Kinder High School for the Performing and Visual Arts. The performance will feature two world premieres.
