    In embarking on a season titled We the People, the Apollo Chamber Players set out to explore the core concepts of America’s founding and how they relate to our experiences today. For their final concert of the season, titled Freedom, the chamber ensemble aimed to begin an intergenerational conversation about democracy with the help of students from the Kinder High School for the Performing and Visual Arts. The performance will feature two world premieres.

    In the opera Breaking the Waves, adapted from Lars von Trier’s 1996 film of the same name, young Calvinist and newlywed Bess McNeill pushes her personal boundaries as she takes on new lovers at the behest of her recently-injured husband, Jan. The opera, with music by Missy Mazzoli and libretto by Royce Vavrek, explores love, sexuality, and fidelity through a contemporary lens, and it all happens on stage at the Wortham Theater Center in a production by Houston Grand Opera.

Of course, not all goes according to plan, and when vampires show up to crash the party, the brothers and their companions must fend for themselves as they await the saving grace of dawn.

    30 years ago, the Texas Legislature established the Texas Aviation Hall of Fame to celebrate notable Texans who contributed to the field of aviation. Among the honorees are former pilots, astronauts, engineers, and entrepreneurs who were in some way involved in the aerospace industry. Located at Houston’s Lone Star Flight Museum, the Hall of Fame just welcomed new honorees for its 2025 class, which includes former U.S. Navy pilot Al Cisneros, a Texas native who lives in Kemah.

They travel across the country and sometimes even across the world during their touring season. But every spring since 2017 the group has found its way back home to Houston for the Onstage Offstage Chamber Music Festival and their official season finale concert.
