On a brisk, sunny Mother’s Day, with winds from the northwest measuring 12-15 miles per hour — with gusts up to 25 — 11 public and private schools competed in a qualifying regatta for the New England Sailing Association Girls’ Championship, hosted by Hingham High and the Hingham Yacht Club. With 14 races completed, Tabor (30 points) was the top qualifier, followed by Cape Cod Academy (38), Hingham (60), Old Rochester (74), and Nantucket (95).

After a smashing inaugural event last May, the United State Tennis Association will run its second individual state high school tennis tournament on Memorial Day weekend, with at least two tweaks: the addition of a Friday qualifier to increase the size of the field, along with the introduction of a doubles tournament. Shawna Fors, director of player development for USTA New England, unveiled the schedule in a virtual meeting of the MIAA tennis committee Wednesday morning.

Boston International, the top seed in the MIAA Division 5 boys’ soccer tournament, has forfeited Wednesday’s 3-2 quarterfinal victory over City League rival TechBoston Academy because of a self-reported use of an eligible player. TechBoston (9-5-3), the ninth seed in the bracket, advances to play Boston’s Dearborn STEM Academy Tuesday at Madison Park (4 p.m.).
