(KSEE/KGPE) – Fresno County-based Community Health System and an affiliate agreed to pay the U.S. $31.5 million for allegations that they violated the False Claims Act, the Department of Justice announced Wednesday. It was reported by the DOJ that the payment was to resolve allegations that they violated the False Claims Act (FCA) based on financial benefits provided to referring physicians.

(KSEE/KGPE) – The driver who died after crashing into Fresno’s Woodward Park last week has been identified by the Fresno County Coroner’s Office on Wednesday. The coroner’s office identified her as 21-year-old Khushmeet Mahal of Fresno. On May 9, around 2 a.m., police said that a driver, now identified as Mahal, was going fast down Shepherd Avenue at Friant Road.

FRESNO, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) – A large pile of tires caught on fire in Fresno on Tuesday due to “hot material,” the Fresno Fire Department said. Just before 6 p.m., firefighters responded to reports of a fire at a commercial property in the 1100 block of S Parallel Avenue. It was reported that multiple callers saw thick, black smoke coming from a tire shop. Upon arrival, crews determined that the source of the fire was not the building itself but a large pile of tires stored outside.
