For many San Diego homes, trash collection is free. But that may soon change. It’s been nearly three years since voters narrowly passed Measure B to allow the city to consider charging a fee. Exactly how much is for officials to decide. The early estimates ranged from $23 to $29. Now, that’s more than doubled. The city can reduce the fee, but it would mean cutting additional services such as new bins with microchips or more frequent recycling pickup.
