CHARLESTON, W.Va . (WSAZ) – The State Supreme Court has a petition on file that could be key to starting the high school football playoffs in West Virginia. A procedural error has delayed movement in the case most of the day Nov. 14. The West Virginia Secondary Schools Activities Commission is asking the Supreme Court to overturn a Wood County decision. That original ruling that was entered on Saturday had changed playoff matchups and how many playoff points teams received.

Both incidents, one occurring on Patrick Street in Charleston and the other near Red House in Putnam County, involved West Virginia American Water. WSAZ reached out asking how the incidents occurred and about any history of leaks or maintenance. A spokeswoman said the company does not have an exact cause, but she provided more answers to WSAZ about the water lines in question.

PARKERSBURG, W.Va. (WSAZ) - Several local high school football programs are being reclassified just weeks before the 2024-2025 season opens. The West Virginia Secondary Schools Activities Commission confirmed on Tuesday that Spring Valley and St. Albans are among schools that will go from Class AAAA to Class AAA. Wayne and Sissonville are among the schools that will bump down from Class AAA to Class AA.

Cabinet Secretary Cynthia Persily went so far to call it “a pivotal first step toward establishing” an alternative path to provide assistance to children whose situations may not meet the legal definition of abuse or neglect.
