When major seed-producing companies drop varieties from production, they can be lost for future use. Saving seeds can keep their unique properties available for future challenges. When you save seeds from your own garden, they are already adapted to grow in the special climate and soil conditions you have.

By Dagmar Fors KarppiThe only word to describe the August meeting of the Locust Valley Garden Club is “supercalifragilisticexpialidocious”. They welcomed new member Frances Cienkowski; heard the Garden Memories of Terri Swenson and about Jonathan Grimm’s collection of hand painted copy’s of 13th and 18th century antique Chinese porcelain vases. The program was a flower show using unusual containers. It unleashed members’ creativity in both their choice of containers and their flower arrangements.

By Dagmar Fors KarppiIt’s always nice to celebrate a success and Locust Valley Garden Club (LVGC) members did that as they attended the 100th anniversary luncheon of the Port Washington Garden Club at the North Hempstead Country Club. The club was founded on March 21, 1924 by six women to encourage the love of gardening. That included creating garden spots in Port Washington, as well as providing weekly, fresh bouquets to be displayed at the Port Washington Library. Sean Becket of S. F.
