Artists in York are preparing to open their doors to the public as one of the main events in the city’s “cultural calendar” returns. York Open Studios will take place in April for its 24th year. It will see artists who live or work within a 10-mile radius of York welcome visitors to their studios on the weekends of April 5 to 6 and April 12 to 13 from 10am to 5pm. The not-for-profit event effectively transforms York into an art gallery for the two weekends.

The evening saw NightSafe raise over £100 through cash and online donations, with £57 being raised by the JustGiving fundraiser. Sunday, 15 October, marked the tenth anniversary of the Yorkshire Marathon Festival, which has seen runners and supporters travel to York from across the UK. The Festival made its first appearance in 2013 and has continued to attract thousands of runners. As stated in the Official Yorkshire Marathon Festival Magazine, “over 90,000” runners have participated in the Yorkshire Marathon Festival since 2013, and “over £7.5 million” has been raised for a range of charities.

On 10 October 2023, the York Dialectic Union invited Muhammad Manwar Ali to speak at their second event of the year. Ali is an ex-Jihadist who now works for the UK’s Home Office and Crown Prosecution Service. From the 1980s, he spent 15 years radicalising, recruiting and fundraising for organisations such as the Muslim Brotherhood.
