Fireworks over Thompson Bay, food with family and friends, and a celebration of American freedom — the Fourth of July festivities of Lake Havasu City’s early days weren’t too different from what locals enjoy today. Several Havasu pioneers recalled what Independence Day looked like way back when. “One of my fondest memories was taking our boat out in Thompson Bay to watch the fireworks,” Dan Delasantos said.

Living in the middle of the Mojave Desert and near a rich resource for wildlife, many Lake Havasu City residents come across wild animals often, even in their own backyards. From families of bunnies to large mountain lions, it’s not an uncommon occurrence. But what is one to do when they come across a wild animal that’s injured or sick? First, leave it alone and observe, according to Dee Pfleger, wildlife manager supervisor for the Arizona Game and Fish Department.

BULLHEAD CITY — The first rain of 2024 passed over the Tri-state on Wednesday afternoon, bringing some precipitation to start off January's winter weather. According to the National Weather Service's Las Vegas station, the storm system came in from the east Pacific Ocean and slid across the area, affording the Mohave Valley some rain before continuing to push northeast — a typical winter storm system, NWS said.
