At Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church, staff and volunteers watched as international news agencies reported that a new pope had been elected. Halfway around the world, Our Lady of the Lake Pastor Tony Okolo watched as the announcement was made on his television. A new leader of the Catholic Church was elected Thursday, following the death of Pope Francis in April.

Parents erupted in protest at Starline Elementary School as long-time educator and school principal Ginny Sautner announced her resignation, which parents believed had been forced by the Lake Havasu Unified School District. On May 9, several parents removed their children from the classes at the facility in protest. But later that day, school district officials announced that Sautner had agreed to stay as the school's principal through next year.

Patrons might occasionally get “shushed” at their local library, but this month Mohave County’s summer reading program is giving Havasu youth something to talk about. The library’s Lake Havasu City branch will begin its summer reading program on May 30, offering free weekly themed programs and crafts for all ages. Younger participants in the summer reading program will also have the ability to earn prizes for logging their reading minutes this summer.
