    Last week, the owners of one of Mebane’s most charming businesses announced on Facebook that on July 19, they would close its doors for good. “It’s with mixed emotions that we share Eclection Emporium will be closing,” began the post from Jessica and Jason Carpentier, who first opened a booth in the shop at 110 N. Fourth St. in downtown Mebane as a form of supplemental income.

Faulkner’s Elite Gymnastics has once again stuck the landing as a national powerhouse by winning its second National Gymnastics Association (NGA) National Championship in three years. The Graham-based gym claimed the title at the 2025 NGA National Championships, held June 2 –7, in Virginia Beach, Virginia.

    Rachel Crook was a single, white business owner who sold fish, nuts and fabric remnants from her small shop, Crook’s Corner, on West Franklin Street in Chapel Hill. Everything about Crook — her personality, interests and willingness to work any kind of odd job to pay for her schooling — was stitched together like a vibrant quilt. She was well-respected and well-liked. For two decades, Crook pursued her Ph.D. in economics at UNC-Chapel Hill.
