After a 2½-day trial, a jury has found a convicted felon guilty on a gun charge, Erie County District Attorney Michael J. Keane announced. Lafayete C. Paige, 31, of Buffalo, faces a maximum penalty of 15 years in prison as a second violent felony offender when he appears for sentencing on a charge of second-degree criminal possession of a weapon on July 29 before Erie County Court Judge Susan Eagan. He remains held without bail.

The fifth day of early voting for the June 24 primary election brought another 1,207 Erie County residents to the polls on Wednesday, Elections Commissioners Ralph M. Mohr and Jeremy J. Zellner reported. It brought the adjusted five-day total turnout to 5,871. Democrats have cast 4,291 ballots so far, 3,708 of them by voters registered in the City of Buffalo, where there is a hotly contested five-way race for the nomination for mayor.

A man was killed and a deputy was wounded in an exchange of gunfire at the scene of a domestic incident Wednesday afternoon in the Town of Mina, Chautauqua County Sheriff James B. Quattrone reported in a press conference Wednesday evening. The victim, described by Quattrone as a middle-aged white male, was pronounced dead at the scene. He was not immediately identified.
