WAXHAW, N.C. (WBTV) - A Waxhaw father who lost his daughter in a home invasion while visiting her friends in South Carolina earlier this month spoke to WBTV. Stephen Federico is the father of Logan Federico, the 22-year-old woman who was gunned down when the suspect, Alexander Dickey, broke into a home where Logan Federico was visiting friends in Columbia.

Developers want to build a 62-lot subdivision and they’re being met with opposition from some residents. The main reason for the pushback is the environment and people in this community fear their quality of life will be diminished and the new construction will interfere with the scenery and nature they’ve enjoyed for decades.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (WBTV) - Nearly a week has gone by since a young Mormon missionary was killed in a hit-and-run in northwest Charlotte. It happened near the intersection of Beatties Ford Road and Celia Avenue not far from the Northwest school of the Arts. On May 1, a group of Mormon missionaries were out in Charlotte sharing the gospel, when a driver lost control of their vehicle, veered onto the sidewalk, and hit them.

Faye Louis told WBTV that she’s been living without central air conditioning since late February. Louis told us this week that her doctor is growing concerned about dehydration for both her and her soon-to-be-born baby.

BOONE, N.C. (WBTV) - A 20-year-old woman is in the hospital Monday night after she was hit by a vehicle leaving the Thaw Out Boone music festival. Molly Mayor, a student at Appalachian State University was trying to cross Old Highway 421 after the music festival when she was hit by a vehicle and suffered head injuries, fractures, and internal injuries. Live music, vendors, plus carnival games and rides, thousands were here in Boone for the Thaw Out festival on Saturday.

HUNTERSVILLE, N.C. (WBTV) - In remembrance of his holiness, the Diocese of Charlotte celebrated a Mass for Pope Francis at St. Mark’s Catholic Church. The 88-year-old died Monday morning of irreversible cardiovascular arrest. On Wednesday, Catholics from around the Queen City honored his life. Bishop Michael Martin said Pope Francis had a unique gift from the Holy Spirit and brought a certain flavor to the papacy.
Belmont residents react to 4-vehicle fire at apartment complex

BELMONT, N.C. (WBTV) - An investigation is underway after a four-vehicle fire early Tuesday morning. The Gaston County Office of Emergency Management and Fire Services are trying to figure out what caused the vehicles to go up in flames. Cell phone video captured by one resident shows all four vehicles burning. The fire was reported at 12:26 a.m. and the Cramerton Fire Department was on scene four minutes later. Victoria Huitt who lives in the complex says she was awaken by a loud boom.

REAL ID’s have been issued in North Carolina for eight years now and people are paying attention. Everyone we spoke to Wednesday afternoon at the Charlotte airport had theirs but if you don’t have yours don’t look at the enforcement date, as a deadline.
