Belmont residents react to 4-vehicle fire at apartment complex

BELMONT, N.C. (WBTV) - An investigation is underway after a four-vehicle fire early Tuesday morning. The Gaston County Office of Emergency Management and Fire Services are trying to figure out what caused the vehicles to go up in flames. Cell phone video captured by one resident shows all four vehicles burning. The fire was reported at 12:26 a.m. and the Cramerton Fire Department was on scene four minutes later. Victoria Huitt who lives in the complex says she was awaken by a loud boom.

Body found in burning car at South Carolina college

GREENVILLE, S.C. (WBTV) - A body was found in a burning car at a South Carolina college over the weekend, according to sister-station WHNS. The body was found at Furman University in Greenville during the day on Saturday, April 19. University police told WHNS that the fire happened near Montague Village, which is off the main campus behind the school’s softball stadium. The area is where the university’s human resources, IT, finance and other offices are.

MILFORD, Ohio (WKRC) – A mom whose daughter died by suicide wants an empty chair placed at graduation to honor her daughter, but the school district said no. Caylee Mastin died by suicide two years ago when she was just 15 years old. Her mom, Julie Mastin, wants an empty chair placed at graduation to not only honor her daughter but bring awareness to mental health. The Milford School Board said it does not allow empty chairs to honor deceased students at their graduation ceremonies.
Part of North Carolina Walmart closed indefinitely after early-morning fire

GREENVILLE, N.C. (WBTV) - A Walmart in North Carolina caught fire on Friday morning, closing part of the store indefinitely. The fire broke out around 5 a.m. at the Walmart on Greenville Boulevard in Greenville. Greenville Fire and Rescue said firefighters found smoke coming from the store’s garden center and were able to quickly put it out. The building’s sprinkler system reportedly helped contain the fire to a small area.
Man who robbed Lincoln County bank in broad daylight arrested, police say

LINCOLNTON, N.C. (WBTV) - A man was put behind bars after he allegedly robbed a bank in Lincoln County on Thursday. The robbery happened just before 1:30 p.m. at Peoples Bank on East Main Street in Lincolnton. Lincolnton police did not say exactly how the robbery was carried out, but said the suspect -- Bryan Keith Flowers -- was arrested around 8:30 p.m. Thursday. It is unclear how much money he may have stolen.
Homicide investigation underway at south Charlotte apartments

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (WBTV) - Police were investigating a homicide at a south Charlotte apartment building Friday morning. Charlotte-Mecklenburg police said shortly before 10 a.m. that the investigation was happening on Cherrycrest Lane, which is off Archdale Drive not far from I-77. Police did not say how many people were killed, nor how they died. Several apartment buildings are in the area. The one where the homicide happened is right behind Archdale Park.
