ALTOONA, PA. (WTAJ) – 10-year veteran, Durel Doogie Houser, is giving back to the community by serving as the director and instructor of a musical program for veterans — Guitar for Veterans. The program is designed to help those who have served to fight PTSD through music and is a passive experience without stress or anxiety. “The biggest takeaway is that they enjoy themselves and you should be enjoying yourself, the whole idea is to have fun;” Houser said.

(WENY) -- Turning 65 this year? If so you may be eligible for the Enhanced STAR property tax exemption in New York. The Enhanced STAR exemption provides increased benefits for senior citizens age 65 and older with qualifying incomes 98,700 or less for the 2024-2025 school year. It is based on the first 84,000 of the value of a home for the 2024-2025 school year. How do you know if you're eligible? First, the property must be the primary residence of at least one eligible owner.

From games to collectibles there was something for everyone to enjoy. Jessica Thompson, from Maryland and Isaiah Garcia, from Philadelphia are both national champions of the game ringer. They traveled to the museum this past weekend to teach kids how to play the competitive marble game.
New York Sport & Fitness hosts Fitness Fighting Hunger Event

ELMIRA, N.Y. (WENY) -- On Sunday New York Sport & Fitness hosted a morning workout called Fitness Fighting Hunger. Many came together for the gym's first big game charity workout since 2020. Any cash donation that was made allowed those to enjoy a workout while giving back to those fighting hunger. There was a unique spin as those who donated $20 was given a big game t-shirt with donations going towards the Food Bank of the Southern Tier.

The Tioga County Cat Project is letting you "Neuter Your Ex" through the end of February. In exchange for a $20 donation you can name a stray cat after an old flame and the Tioga County Project will have the cat spayed or neutered. As an added bonus a picture of the freshly named and neutered cat will be posted to social media for everyone to see.

Research shows the gap in reading ability between strong and struggling readers widens with age making it crucial for children at a young age to practice reading out loud. South East Steuben County Library in Corning didn't shy away from celebrating the national holiday in style. Every child who attended Saturday's event with a parent was given a free book.
