ITHACA, N.Y. (WENY) -- The 48th annual Ithaca Festival of the Arts returns to the City of Ithaca this weekend. The four-day event features a craft fair, live music, vendors, kids activities and more. The event, more commonly called Ithaca Festival kicked off Thursday night with a parade down Cayuga Street at 6 p.m. The procession was followed by a concert by Maddy Walsh and The Blind Spots at the Bernie Milton Pavilion in the Ithaca Commons.

RIVERSIDE, N.Y. (WENY) -- A new Jersey Mike's location in the Town of Riverside will hold its grand opening on Wednesday, June 4. The eatery will be located at 72 W. Pulteney St. inside the Riverside Tops plaza just off of I-86. To celebrate, the franchise will be holding a fundraiser for the Guthrie Corning Hospital. According to the chain, some customers will receive a special fundraising coupon.

NATIONAL HARBOR, MD. (WENY) -- A Corning Middle School student placed in the semifinals of the Scripps National Spelling Bee on Thursday. 8th-grader Sharon Hwang attends the Corning Alternative School for Math and Science. She survived 6 knockout rounds in the national spelling competition. Hwang made it to the semifinals by spelling lixiviate correctly. However, she misspelled the word insinuendo in the semis on Thursday afternoon. Hwang ended up placing tied for 41st, out of 243 young spellers.

BATH, N.Y. (WENY) -- New York State Police have arrested a Bath man after he was allegedly found with 1,500 images of child pornography in his possession. According to troopers, 54-year-old Ralph Hicks is charged with Promoting a Sexual Performance by a Child and Possessing a Sexual Performance by a Child. State Police say they started investigating Hicks for child porn possession after receiving a tip from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children at the beginning of May.

HORNELL, N.Y. (WENY) -- A Hornell man was arrested on child porn charges after an investigation by New York State Police, according to troopers. Eugene Hale, a 32-year-old, is charged with Promoting a Sexual Performance by a Child and Possessing a Sexual Performance by a Child. State Police say they were investigating Hale for child exploitation, and executed a search warrant at his home on May 22. Investigators seized numerous electronic devices from the home for examination.
