ELMIRA, N.Y. (WENY) -- The City of Elmira announced Tuesday that the Department of Public Works plans to repave 5.81 miles of roadway throughout the city this summer. The work begins this month, and will continue through September. The city did not announce dates for specific projects, as the projects are subject to weather and equipment availability. ERWIN, N.Y. (WENY) -- The charges against a man originally accused of an assault in Erwin are expected to be dropped, according to the Steuben County District Attorney. Two other people are now facing charges for their alleged role in the incident. 44-year-old James Cunningham, was charged with Assault, after being accused of seriously injuring someone at a home on Katie Lane in the Town of Erwin on April 22.

CORNING, N.Y. (WENY) -- A healthcare workers union and Guthrie Corning Hospital have reached a tentative agreement on a new, three-year contract, the union announced Thursday. The union, 1199SEIU United Healthcare Workers East, represents over 450 nurses, maintenance workers, clerical employees and technicians at the healthcare provider. According to 1199SEIU, the tentative agreement was reached Wednesday around 10 p.m., just two hours before the previous deal was set to expire.

The free session is happening on Wednesday, May 14, at 6 p.m. at the Slaterville Fire Department at 2681 Slaterville Road in Slaterville Springs. The New York National Guard, New York Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Services and local emergency management personnel will be there to help families create emergency plans, stock supplies, and recover quickly after disasters.

ELMIRA, N.Y. (WENY) -- An Elmira man is in police custody after he allegedly started a fire in a 5th floor unit at St. Joseph's Apartments Wednesday morning. According to Elmira Police, 76-year-old Martin Beebe, used an accelerant on the blaze he allegedly lit in the occupied apartment. The Elmira Fire Department were alerted of the fire around 7 a.m. Wednesday morning. The fire was put out by responding crews and determined suspicious by investigators, according to law enforcement.
