    NEW YORK (WENY) -- A local political group, Indivisible Corning-Elmira, is hosting two food drives Saturday to benefit those in need. The group is asking for cans and other non-perishable goods, which will be distributed to three area food pantries. Those interested can make donations at Centerway Square on Market St. in Corning from 12 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. and in Elmira at Heart to Heart Yoga & Healing on W.

    ELMIRA, N.Y. (WENY) -- The annual suicide prevention walk, "Walk a Mile in my Shoes", returns to Elmira in May. This is the 20th year of the fundraiser and awareness event for suicide prevention efforts. The walk begins at 11 a.m. on May 3 at Eldridge Park. In-person registration begins the day of the walk at 9 a.m. Registration is also open online. Participants will receive a lunch ticket and a t-shirt if they give a $15 donation at the time of registration.

Organizers say the event is "a fantastic way to give back to our community, meet new people, and make a real difference."Rakes, brooms, bags and more will be supplied to volunteers.     BATH, N.Y. (WENY) -- A Hornell man faces 25 years behind bars after being convicted of hitting and killing a person while he was driving high. Micheal Eldridge, a 26-year-old, was found guilty on charges of Manslaughter, Vehicular Manslaughter, Assault and Reckless Endangerment after a six-day trial. The crash happened at the intersection of Route 415 and Michigan Hollow Road in the Town of Avoca on August 6, 2023.
