1 INTRODUCTION Gynostemma pentaphyllum, a traditional Chinese medicine with a long history, has been widely utilized (Ji et al., 2018; Li et al., 2016, 2019). G. pentaphyllum has been employed throughout the ages to treat various ailments such as rheumatism, liver disease, and diabetes. Ancient medical literature provides detailed accounts of the pharmacological effects and applications of G. pentaphyllum.

To assess whether the integration of PD-1 inhibitor with total neoadjuvant therapy (iTNT) can lead to an improvement in complete responses (CRs) and favors a watch-and-wait (WW) strategy in patients with proficient mismatch repair or microsatellite stable (pMMR/MSS) locally advanced rectal cancer (LARC).
