Ferrari and Mercedes came out on top as the most varied field in GT World Challenge Europe Sprint Cup history raced at Brands Hatch. A huge 30-car grid made up of 10 manufacturers competed in a pair of hour-long contests on the 2.4-mile Grand Prix loop. The Ferrari 296 of Alessio Rovera and Vincent Abril triumphed in the opening race, before reigning champions Maro Engel and Lucas Auer (Mercedes-AMG) won the second encounter.

A 30-car field will contest this weekend’s GT World Challenge Sprint Cup round at Brands Hatch - but Valentino Rossi will be absent from the grid. The MotoGP legend had raced at the West Kingsdown circuit in the last three seasons, scoring a second-place finish with Maxime Martin in 2023. But the 46-year-old Italian is concentrating on the FIA World Endurance Championship this year, and will miss the two one-hour contests in Kent on Sunday.

A furious homeowner says he plans to build a barrier at the edge of his property to stop lost lorries damaging his driveway. John Rolfe, 40, has had two lorries become stuck on his land in Sevington, Ashford, since he moved in four months ago. A man has died after being hit by a van on the hard shoulder of the M20. The victim had got out of his blue Kia Carens on the coastbound stretch between Junction 8 for Leeds Castle and Junction 9 for Ashford. Police say he was then struck by an Iveco box van at 10.20pm on Friday. The 71-year-old died at the scene and his next of kin have been informed. A female passenger received minor injuries, and police say the driver of the van is assisting officers with their inquires.

A suspected drink-driver is being held by police after a car collided with four deer. Officers were called to Penshurst, near Tunbridge Wells, in the early hours. They say a man blew a reading of 60 micrograms of alcohol per 100 millilitres of breath - almost double the legal limit of 35. A photo shared on X by Kent Police Sevenoaks shows police tape surrounding a red Ford Fiesta, which sports a crumpled bonnet. Police say the man remains in custody.
