Script issues keep Road House (2024) from reaching the heights of the Patrick Swayze original, but Jake Gyllenhaal and this cast give it everything they have got. It is not an easy task, creating an updated version of something that is very beloved, but you must give Road House (2024) a ton of credit for taking the task on. Even though I am not a mega fan of the original film from 1989, starring Patrick Swayze, it is hard not to recognize it as a classic.

An enchanting and bright mix of fun and science, Popular Theory tests the chemistry of a tale as old as time: The high school hierarchy. For Erwin (Sophia Reid-Gantzert), Popular Theory’s protagonist, this is the case.

All of Us Strangers, Andrew Haigh’s intimate gay romance within a metaphysical drama, is perfect. The Pet Shop Boys seem like the perfect intersection of ‘80s British culture and gay culture. Two of the synth-pop band’s songs are employed in these subtexts in All of Us Strangers, the new film from British director Andrew Haigh (Weekend, 45 Years and HBO’s Looking). The first, ‘I Want A Dog,’ is heard at a gay nightclub.

Telling the untold story of Priscilla Presley, Sofia Coppola’s Priscilla is a tender, poignant drama with an incredible performance from Cailee Spaeny. The team behind Priscilla, the eighth film from popular auteur Sofia Coppola, describe it as the unseen side of a great American myth. That description is apt for Elvis Presley, who became a cornerstone of American pop culture. He was a rock ‘n’ roll god, and his Graceland estate was his Olympus.

Austin Butler, Jodie Comer and Tom Hardy star in The Bikeriders, Jeff Nichols’ biker club drama that is a charged slice of Americana. Biker culture has been a notable American subculture for decades, and the movies have latched onto it for just as long. From a greaser Marlon Brando in The Wild One to Roger Corman’s B-movie The Wild Angels and Dennis Hopper’s Easy Rider. The latter is referenced briefly in The Bikeriders, the new drama from writer-director Jeff Nichols (Take Shelter, Mud, Loving).
