A care home has delighted its residents with an unexpected visit from two penguins. Gregory House, based in Welby Gardens, Grantham, welcomed Widget and Pringle, two Humboldt penguins from Amazing Animals in Chipping Norton, on Thursday (May 8). The visit was part of the home’s efforts to bring joy and memorable experiences to those living there. “When I heard of penguins coming to the home, I did wonder why there wasn’t a paddling pool filled up for them,” joked resident Pamela Parker.

An annual football fundraiser will return to raise money for dementia and autism support services in the area. The 2025 South Kesteven Charity Cup will take place on Tuesday, July 15, with Deeping Rangers and Harrowby United set to face off in a single decisive match. This year’s tournament returns to The Haydon Whitham Stadium in Market Deeping, kicking off at 7.30pm.

A group of volunteers are helping keep their village clean through an initiative that has removed hundreds of bottles, bags of litter and unusual items from roads and lanes. Launched in 2021 as CUBE-21, the Bottesford Wombles were started by resident David Paine, 57, to encourage others to litterpick in their own time. Backed by Bottesford Parish Council and inspired by a scheme in Spalding, David secured funding for free litterpickers, bin bags and pooper scoopers.

Police are appealing for witnesses following a crash involving a horse and cart. The incident happened at about 12.35pm on Saturday (May 10), on Wardentree Lane, Pinchbeck, Lincolnshire Police have confirmed. A white van reportedly struck the horse and cart, but officers have not yet identified the driver. Investigators are urging the motorist involved to come forward, and are appealing to anyone who witnessed the collision or saw what happened beforehand to get in touch.
