It's no secret that Gen Z has soaring rates of depression, anxiety, and a multitude of other mental health issues. A study conducted by Walton Family Foundation and Murmuration found some unfortunate statistics:Gen Z (42%) is about twice as likely as Americans over 25 (23%) to battle depression and feelings of hopelessness. Gen Z is three times as likely (18% to 5%) as Americans over 25 to say their challenges are so severe that they thought they might be better off dead.

On the evening of April 16, the tick of the towering grandfather clock in the Thompson Room of Harvard’s Barker Center provided a rhythm for two voices; two poets, Sherwin Bitsui and Rowan Ricardo Phillips, took turns on the podium performing their poems to an audience. Their voices created a spell of enthusiasm in the room, bringing a sense of awe to the listeners.

Chase D. Melton ’25 spent his summer in Berlin writing about everything but Berlin. “I’m not really able to write about a place or feel comfortable writing about a place until I left it, which is interesting — until it’s in memory,” said Melton. During his Artist Development Fellowship — organized by the Office for the Arts, the Office of Undergraduate Research and Fellowships, and the Office of Career Services — Melton took his fiction writing abroad to Germany.
