    Students in a homeschool group painted paper butterflies to contribute to a community art project during National Library Week at Gilford Public Library on Thursday afternoon. The students then flew kites with custom-drawn designs in the parking lot, enjoying the warm spring weather of 50 degrees. The art project is part of a celebration of the community and the library, aimed at involving people who don't normally engage with the library.

    LACONIA — Katie White’s neighbors were in the process of moving when they hit a barred owl with their moving truck early in the morning hours of April 1. Thinking it was injured, they called NH Fish and Game, who told them to leave it alone, and let nature run its course. Instead, they brought it home in a box. Around 1 a.m. April 1, White decided to take responsibility for getting the owl help, despite dealing with illness of her own stage: four breast cancer.

    NORTHFIELD — Spaulding Academy & Family Services is hosting their third annual prom for students and residents, and staff are looking for donations of clothes for everyone to dress up for the occasion. If not for the Spaulding Academy prom, many of the students wouldn't have a traditional prom experience. While some students also attend public school, most are looking forward to Spaulding's end-of-year dance.

    BELMONT — The town Selectboard meeting on April 2 was at the usual time, 10 a.m. But after an advisory petitioned warrant article passed at Town Meeting to start selectboard meetings after 4 p.m., the board voted to hold the second meeting of each month at 6 p.m., temporarily through June. The Wednesday, April 16 meeting will be the first at the new time. The first meeting of each month will still be held at 10 a.m.The decision to make one meeting per month at 6 p.m. was described as a compromise.
