It’s been a long time coming. 45 years ago, Gordie Howe scored the final goal of his storied career at the venerable age of 52. It was a playoff goal, to boot, scored for the Hartford Whalers against an appropriately legendary franchise in the Montreal Canadiens, who had just won four-straight Stanley Cups. The fans at the Montreal Forum gave Howe a standing ovation, which is not the typical reaction from Canadiens fans to a playoff goal scored by the opposing team.

The Vancouver Canucks will have another hole to fill behind the bench for next season. Yaroslav "Yogi" Svejkovsky will be leaving the Canucks and signing with the Philadelphia Flyers, according to reports by David Pagnotta of The Fourth Period and Rick Dhaliwal of ChekTV. Arturs Silovs is having an absolutely dominant postseason for the Abbotsford Canucks. The 24-year-old goaltender leads the Calder Cup Playoffs in goals against average (1.61) and save percentage (.941) and has won 10 of his 14 starts to help carry the Canucks to the Western Conference Final, where they have a 2-0 lead on the Texas Stars. On Saturday, Silovs posted his fifth shutout of the playoffs, stopping all 26 shots he faced in a tightly-contested 1-0 win.

As the Florida Panthers and Edmonton Oilers head into the Stanley Cup Final, a few former members of the Vancouver Canucks are going with them. The Panthers have three former Canucks — or Canucks prospects — on the roster: Gustav Forsling is eating up minutes on the top pairing, Nate Schmidt has 3 goals and 7 points from the third pairing, and Jonah Gadjovich has chipped in a couple of goals from the fourth line.
