The 2025 Stanley Cup Playoffs are starting without the Vancouver Canucks. A lot went wrong this season to get to this point and it’s bitterly disappointing for Canucks fans, especially after all of the positivity from last season’s playoff run that came one game short of the Western Conference Final. It’s a shame, as the Stanley Cup Playoffs are one of the best experiences in sports and are even better when you have a rooting interest.

There was a certain finality to Brock Boeser’s end-of-season media availability. While it’s certainly possible that Boeser will re-sign with the Vancouver Canucks, the pending unrestricted free agent himself admitted that it probably wasn’t in the cards about a week ago. “Honestly, it's unlikely at this point,” said Boeser to Sportsnet’s Iain MacIntyre. “It sucks, it's unfortunate. The annual NHL Awards are decided on by a variety of different groups. A couple of awards are simply given to players based on statistics: the Art Ross, Rocket Richard, and the William M. Jennings. The Professional Hockey Writers Association (PHWA) votes for most of the awards: the Hart, Norris, Calder, Selke, Lady Byng, Masterton, and Conn Smythe. The NHL's general managers decide the Vezina Award and are part of a group that votes for the Jim Gregory Award for GM of the year.
