SPEEDWAY, Ind. (WISH) — The IU Motorsports Medicine Fellowship gives trainees a chance to specialize in everything a doctor might see while working with a motorsports team. The program teaches the fellow about high velocity crash injuries, but they also manage primary care and injury prevention for these teams. A fellow is a fully qualified doctor that has completed their required residency training.

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Indianapolis will soon return New York and Michigan streets to two-way traffic in an effort to improve safety on the near east side. As News 8 first reported Monday night, the Indianapolis City-County Council has introduced a proposal for deletion of two one-way streets to ensure city code is in line with the updates the project made on Monday night.

Family wants better regulation after 15-year-old accused of raping 7-year-old on school bus

(WISH) — The lawyer for the family whose child survived a sexual assault on a school bus is asking anyone with more information to come forward. Laura Swafford of Wagner Reese law firm says this never should have happened in the first place. The child was 7 years old and placed next a 15-year-old on the bus. “I’m involved to raise awareness of what has occurred, to see if there’s other witness that could come forward to help us better understand what happened,” Swafford said.

NOBLESVILLE, Ind. (WISH) — Decades after thousands of human bones were found at the farm of former Indiana serial killer Herbert Baumeister, investigators can give a name to one victim. The Hamilton County Coroner’s Office says Daniel Thomas Halloran’s remains have been found on Fox Hollow Farm in Westfield, Indiana. Fox Hollow Farm is Herbert Baumeister’s former home in Westfield, Indiana. Investigators found human remains on the property for at least eight people.

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — The Stand on Peace Walk on Friday brought together people from all walks of life to support each other and encourage an end to gun violence. One of the goals was to inspire youth to choose a different, safer path, and, despite the rain, young people showed up for the march. Hoosiers Concerned About Gun Violence hosted the march in partnership with local groups. Rebecca McCracken is the president-elect of the group.

This trip to Italy was initially planned for the four students and two adults to make a pilgrimage to witness the canonization, or formal declaration, of the first millennial, Carlo Acutis, to be declared a saint in the Catholic Church. That all changed when Pope Francis died on the day they left for Europe.
INDOT introduces Safe Zones program

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — A new Indiana Department of Transportation program that aims to encourage drivers to slow down in work zones officially rolls out on May 5. The program is called Safe Zones. The program uses radar technology and cameras to monitor speeding in work zones. “Speed kills,” said Richard Hedgecock, president of the Indiana Constructors, Inc. “Speed kills.”This program allows INDOT to put a speed camera in four work zones in Indiana. Pre-enforcement started in January.
Student overdoses at school from fentanyl-laced vape

Click here for updates on this story INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) -- A Perry Township Meridian High School student overdosed from fentanyl laced in a vape pen; two doses of naloxone saved the student’s life. On Tuesday, a male student used a THC vape without knowing that it was laced with fentanyl. School nurses and police quickly administered naloxone, known commercially as Narcan, twice before the student regained consciousness.
