THE VOLUNTARY sector of the highly popular Clyde Cottage Nursery in Dunoon is facing closure after it was deemed no longer financially viable, bringing an end to a unique and much loved service of local childcare for more than 40 years. The decision to close the charity side of the nursery was taken during a meeting last week, which was attended by parents, nursery staff and a member of Argyll and Bute Councils early years team, which resulted in the facilitys committee collectively resigning.

AFTER A mixed bag of projects carried out on the island by the Business Improvement District (BID), coordinator DL Gordon has outlined 2025’s objectives forthe organisation. Under her stewardship, successful projects such as the digital noticeboard installation in Guildford Square were carried out. However, the organisation was also responsible for the Christmas lights debacle, which left some residents disappointed.

The left back has pitched up at the Scottish Championship’s basement side, Airdrieonians, vying to get game time under Rhys McCabe’s stewardship for the latter half of the season.

Bute Island Radio got into the festive spirit this past weekend, taking part in the Bute Yard Christmas Market on Saturday and Sunday. The station set up shop alongside Erin and Amber at the Bute Yard stall, selling raffle tickets and spreading holiday cheer to market-goers. As if the atmosphere wasn’t festive enough, there was a special guest in attendance—none other than Father Christmas himself.

The Isle of Bute Golf Club’s popular winter leagues are in full swing, with players embracing the chilly autumn weather and showing off their competitive spirit. October saw the official start of both the Wednesday nine-hole league and the Saturday 18-hole league, which are both shaping up to be exciting contests this year. A young reader from Kirn Primary has taken a unique approach to encouraging a love of books, literally reaching new heights to win a recent reading challenge. Brodie Bennett, a ten-year-old pupil, recently completed a remarkable feat that has earned him the first prize in the school’s “Most Unusual Place to Read” challenge. In a bid to get children excited about reading, Kirn hosted a challenge asking students to share the most extreme or unusual locations where they had read a book.

An on-call firefighters women’s networking group from East and West Dunbartonshire and Argyll and Bute convened at Inveraray Community Fire Station for an inspiring event. CHANGES to the timing of a key council cash pot could leave some community groups in Argyll and Bute out in the cold, a councillor has warned. A report has suggested that the council’s supporting communities fund should seek applications between March and May from 2025, instead of by a February deadline. It is also proposed that the authority’s area committees award funds between August and September, when they usually do so in April or May.
